C-Brace®
What is the C-Brace and who can benefit from it?
The C-Brace is a microprocessor-controlled leg orthosis that responds to everyday movements and situations in real-time. This helps ensure the safety, stability, and confidence in user’s everyday lives.
The C-Brace allows people with paralysis in their legs to walk on uneven terrain, go up and down slopes, inclines, and take stairs one foot at a time, step-by-step.
C-Brace users can enjoy activities with their families and friends, while experiencing life in a completely new way. People with neurological indications of the lower limbs can benefit from the C-Brace. The leading indications are incomplete paraplegia (lesion between L1 and L5) with very minor to no spasticity, as well as post-polio syndrome, a condition that can follow poliomyelitis.
How does the C-Brace work?
The C-Brace consists of individually fabricated thigh, calf, and foot components. An ankle joint or individual spring element connects the foot and calf components. The sensor system continuously measures the flexion of the knee joint and its angular acceleration. This lets the C-Brace detect the user’s current walking phase, so it can regulate the hydraulic resistances as well as control the flexion and extension of the knee joint.

Why try the C-Brace?
Safety: Compared to a conventional leg brace, C-Brace allows you to walk hands free, giving you the freedom to hold a loved one’s hand, carry a child, or take in the scenery.
Confidence: Welcome to expanded range of motion. With the C-Brace, you can confidently walk downstairs, down a ramp, and sit without dropping into a seat.
Back In Control: You can conveniently control your C-Brace with the Cockpit app, for example when switching to cycling mode.
C-Brace is changing lives one step at a time.
Functionality
Intelligent sensors for continuous movement control
Walking Recalculated
The C-Brace includes thigh, lower leg, and foot components, all of which are custom fabricated. An ankle joint (unilateral or bilateral treatment) or a custom spring element connects the foot and lower leg components. The sensor technology continuously measures knee flexion and angular acceleration of the knee. This allows the C-Brace to detect which phase of the gait cycle the user is currently in. It can then regulate the hydraulic

New Freedom of Movement
The C-Brace allows users to experience a whole new world of movement. Users can walk slowly or quickly, navigate slopes or uneven terrain, avoid trip hazards, descend stairs step-over-step, or flex the leg while it’s under load.

Small and Lightweight
The new C-Brace® is small enough to be worn inconspicuously under clothing. Because it’s lightweight, the user expends less effort while walking.

Enhanced Safety While Walking
The C-Brace responds in real time. This makes users feel safe even when they face potential trip hazards – because they can take steps or sit down with the knee flexed, and can also walk on uneven terrain or slopes.

App Control for Users and O&P Professionals
Users can control their C-Brace with the convenient Cockpit app, for example when switching to cycling mode. The O&P professional uses the Setup app to individually adjust the C-Brace easily.

Dynamic Movement Patterns
The new sensor technology makes the C-Brace even more intuitive to use, with additional dynamic and responsive movement patterns.

Simplified Fabrication Process
The C-Brace is fully customized to each individual patient. Patients can request a trial to see if they are a candidate prior to receiving a C-Brace.
